Why retro video games still appeal to some gamers in a generation of PS3, XBox 360 and Nintendo to some boggles the mind.   Nostalgia may be a reason.   Another reason could be, that back then games seemed to be more family-oriented.  Families could play games together.

 

It could be an inherited interest.  Some gamers may want to play a game their parents grew up playing.  Or they grew up playing  their parents'  games .  Retro video games offer a simple gameplay to those who are too young have any nostalgic feelings.  These feelings of nostalgia play a vital role in the renewal of these games.

 

To some, it is not the feeling of nostalgia that is fanning the flames of retro games interest.  It is the fact that these games were more fun to play.

 

As compared to today's games, retro video games  themselves are obsolete.  Their gameplay was simplier than today' games and their graphics  can  not hold a candle to the graphics of today's games.  But many gamers think back on retro video games with fond memories. 

 

Retro games are making their way  back into the spotlight.  This is due to increased exposure in magazines and articles written them.

 

Unlike the games of today, gameplay of yesterday was more important than the game's graphics.  There wasn't too much room ( if any ) for error when playing a retro video game.  You had to perform  whatever challenge infrontof you just right or you died.  This accomplishments made game play more rewarding.

 

I guess it can be said that the feeling of accomplishment and simple game play appeal  and continue to appeal to gamers.
